The Theatre | The Duel

Inspired by a 17th century love affair, ‘The Theatre’ explores the worlds of fashion, gossip and intrigue in which the play is certainly not the thing that interests the audience. The auditorium is the stage and the audience is more concerned with being seen and spying upon each other. A metamorphosis occurs as the expression ‘a fly on a wall’ is literally translated and the ranks of prying opera glasses become increasingly insect-like.

The hand drawn designs are available as a bespoke drawn panel or hand screen printed textile.

Two rival lovers meet one misty morning to settle their differences honourably. ‘The Duel’ explores the ritualisation of death and vengeance as well as depicting the startling beauty, balance and symmetry of legitimised murder. The design portrays the poetry underlying this brutal act.
